2011 Comes to an end.

2011 Christmas/Awards Banquet

The 2011 Christmas/Awards Banquet was again great success.  Thanks to Jean & Terry Dart and Shirley & Jerry Wilcox for their hard work in making
 this evening another memorable event.

Thanks also to JP Jackson for hosting the gift exchange with his usual wit.

President Doug Fulk presented various members with certificates of appreciation for their contributions to the welfare of the club.

In keeping with the tradition of the last three "person(s) of the year" making the selection for this years candidates JP Jackson,
Norm & Geri Smith and Barb & Art Kowalk, were tasked to pick a deserving person or persons for this years award.

After careful deliberation they were privileged to present this years "Person(s) of the year" award to Terry and Jean Dart for their unselfish dedication to the Capitol City Old Car Club over the years and particularly for their efforts to raise funds for deployed military families
in Mid-Michigan.  Each in their own way have made our club a better organization just for being members.

So Congratulations Jean and Terry, our Persons of the year, 2011.

2011 Grand Ledge Color Cruise Car Show

The 2011 Grand Ledge Color Cruise and Island Festival Car Show was a great success.  The weather was perfect and the streets of Grand Ledge were a-buzz with activity.
The show started at 10:00 am and by 8:30 most of downtown was packed with classic cars.  We had 169 registered cars as well as 15 club cars in attendance.
Spectators were out in full strength enjoying the classic cars on display and the other Color Cruise activities.

Thanks to the generosity of those attending the show, we were able to donate $900 to our community service project, the Michigan National Guard Family Programs and Family Assistance Center,
to assist the families of our deployed soldiers.  A special thank you goes out to Consumers Profession Credit Union (CPCU) for again sponsoring our show which allows us to keep the show
free of charge to participants.

This year a committee consisting of Marie Davis and Dave Kindy from CPCU, Stephanie Rogers from the Michigan National Guard Family Assistance Center and Doug Fulk, President of the CCOCC
judged the cars for the awards.  After much discussion the following winners were chosen from the many beautiful vehicles on display.

I would like to thank all the club volunteers that helped with the show and kept things running smoothly.  I would also like to thank The Grand Ledge Police Department, Grand Ledge City Council, Color Cruise Committee, Grand Ledge Department of Public Works, Bob Mackie of L.A. Customs, Chuck Pantera and of course our main sponsors Marie Davis and Dave Kindy from Consumers Credit Union  AND all the wonderful people that stopped by and enjoyed looking at the cars.

Special tribute to Mike and Maria Alexander owners of Olympic Broil

Many of our members have enjoyed the free meal provided by Mike and Maria each Tuesday at their very successful Tuesday evening cruise-ins.   In the recent past the Mid Michigan Street Rod Assoc. held dances there with live bands.  These dances spanned 9 years and each year Roy Petersen from that organization did the artwork for a tee shirt for each dance.

In appreciation of Mike and Maria's generosity Roy donated eight tee shirts which were then incorporated into a tee shirt quilt by his wife Maria and Geri Smith with the finish quilting done by Geri's daughter Kari.  (Kariquilts.com)  The quilt was presented to Mike and Maria on Tuesday Sept. 27th during the evening cruise-in.  Maria may be keeping this close by judging from her smile.

Also presented was a large poster with artwork by Roy Petersen that had been offered to the cruisers over the past three weeks for them to sign their names.   Stop by to see it.

Hot Rods and Harleys at Mulliken August 27th

Several members attended the Hot Rods and Harleys annual show at Mulliken.  The weather was perfect and the hosts did a tremendous job of entertaining everyone in attendance all day.  Men and women tried their hand at tossing a Briggs and Stratton motor down main street - you just had to see this to understand.  Hundreds of custom and stock motorcycles were displayed in the main street and in the pavillion.  Some are just works of art, no other description fits.  A motorcycle trick show also entertained the crowd with wheel stands both front and rear and a variety of other tricks.

The awards were custom made laser cut stainless steel and were VERY unique to say the least.  Made by a fellow in Lake Odessa.

Lake Odessa, August 6

Nice day until the sky opened up with torrential rain.

Fitzgerald Park, Grand Ledge, July 9 th.

Nice day, no tornado warnings or thunderstorms for a change.  A large turnout of members so CCOCC won the prize again for most members, two coolers of soda and two watermelons.

Nice turnout as usual.

Westphalia Cruise-in  June 16th

Rumored to have around 1,000 cars on the streets of Westphalia.  So many spectators one could hardly walk down the street.

Dimondale Cruise-in June 17th

In conjunction with the Oldsmobile Homecoming event the City of Dimondale blocked off main street and invited the Oldsmobiles to cruise in for an evening show.  About 40 showed up and the event was then opened to any others who wanted to display their cars.

Father's Day Nursing Home tour -  June 18th

The 10th annual Father's Day Nursing home tour was again blessed with perfect weather and a nice turnout of members, some went the whole distance and a few joined later or left earlier but everyone had a great time as usual.  If you have never participated you are missing one of our most satisfying events.

Thanks go to the members who spent the day with us to prove we are the best car club anywhere!!!

The day started off with a visit to  Hot Dogs for Breakfast....a Clown and  Live band - some even felt the urge to dance to the live music.  Might have depressed those in walkers and wheelchairs.

Potterville Gizzard Fest

About 60 cars showed up for the annual Gizzard Fest Car Show in Potterville on 6-11-2011.  Nice weather and lots and lots of spectators from the downtown activities. Four awards were presented at the end of the show.

John Caudell won an award and trophy for "Best classic car".  Norm & Geri Smith won the award and trophy for "Peoples Choice".  The awards were accompanied by a nice gift bag with gift certificates and car cleaning items.

$44.00 ticket for 50/50.  New teeth?

Vermontville Syrup Festival

The traditional first event of the season is the Vermontville Syrup Festival.  This was held a week later this year due to Easter Sunday and Saturday's car show was typical - cold, windy and overcast.

Most of the participants were dismayed to find a portable sawmill four feet upwind from the parking area and every car and person was soon covered in fine sawdust.

Relief came in the form of a parade through downtown.
